Learn more about Acupuncture with Helen!
Helen joined Mayfield Osteopath’s in 2010 and is able to provide relief from a wide variety of symptoms. Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. Western medical acupuncture is the use of acupuncture following a medical diagnosis. It involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles of the body.
A course of acupuncture usually creates longer lasting pain relief than when a single treatment is used.
Acupuncture treatment can provide relief from a range of symptoms, including but not limited to chronic tension-type headaches, migraines and other musculoskeletal conditions.
We understand that sometimes coming to see a practitioner can be a daunting process, and we do our best to make our patients feel completely relaxed and at ease from the moment they walk into the practice.
If you haven’t been to us before, Helen will begin by taking a full medical case history from you, as well as asking you to complete a short medical information form. Helen will talk you through the best course of action and the likely duration of the recommended treatment plan.
What to discuss at your first appointment
Tell Helen what you hope to improve and about any medicines or other treatments you use. In particular, mention blood-thinning medicine, a tendency to bleed or bruise, or a skin condition or infection. These details help her decide whether treatment is suitable and how to adapt a session. You can discuss the proposed number of visits and how you will review your progress together.
Some people experience temporary soreness, bruising or light-headedness after needling. If you are worried about a symptom or have an ongoing medical condition, speak with your GP as well. You can meet our team before booking and read the NHS guidance on complementary therapies for general safety information.
